Dining Chair FF01

Inspired by simple Shaker chairs and Danish designers’ interpretation of the same designs.

Distilled to its simplest form, the chair is lightweight - both visually and physically.

The bent wood back cradles the lower back and is pinned to the rear legs in traditional Shaker fashion, but using brass instead of cherry or oak for the pins.

The seat is hand woven from twisted paper cord - a traditional technique used to weave seats in many furniture traditions from Appalachia to Denmark.

Woven Paper Cord Seat

The seat is hand woven with 1/8” paper cord - sometimes called paper rush since this was originally done with fibers from the grassy rush plant. It takes a skilled craftsperson 9 hours to weave one seat. It’s a tedious process that requires constant attention to detail.

The paper cord we use comes from a fellow manufacturer here in North Carolina.
